We often have people contact us who wish to come to Sat Nam Fest, but who are concerned they won’t fit in. “I’ve never done Kundalini Yoga before.” “Do I have to wear white?” “What’s the deal with the head coverings?” “I don’t really do much yoga.”

Be assured, you are not alone. And know that the most important thing is for you to follow your own spirit, your own heart. If you wish to join us, that alone is all you need to “fit in!”

We have many people who are new to Kundalini Yoga, or who have taken only a few classes. We also have old timers, who have been practicing for 20 years or more, and all walks of life in between. It is in part what makes this gathering special. We all grow from it, we glow from the experience, and we come to know that it is the magic of community that is important, as we follow our own heart and path within the whole.

I’ve never done Kundalini Yoga before.

Well, then you are coming to one the best places on earth to have a full immersion!! World class teachers, phenomenal musicians, and so many options. There is so much variety in Kundalini Yoga, from the mantra, meditation, breath work, music, kriyas, and community. By coming to this, you will have a true sense of what this technology can offer. Simply come with a willingness to receive benefit! And you will.

I don’t have much white clothing.

White is not required, kundalini yoga talks about benefits to your aura for wearing white, but we invite you to try it for yourself!

So try it out, and simply see what it is like to wear white. Or, just wear what you are comfortable in. The most important thing is that you are comfortable.

And, there will be lots of white clothing for sale at the bazaar, too! I often stock up at these events for the entire year. Read more about the technology of wearing white.

What should I wear?

Whatever is most comfortable. Wear something you can easily move in. Ideally bring something that is cotton or natural fibers, so it is breathable. Something with some stretch or spaciousness. Something you don’t have to worry if you are revealing too much skin or underwear if you are doing your yoga kriyas in odd postures. Just be comfortable.  And if you have white, bring it! You just might feel lighter wearing it.  If you don’t have white, try out the lighter colors in your wardrobe.

What is with the head-covering?

The head-covering contains the energy of the Kundalini rising.  It allows you to stay focused within yourself.  It is only required in the Gurdwara, if you choose to spend time in there, and it recommended during Sadhana, and the Jap Ji workshop.

Ideally, it is white cotton.  But it can be any color.  You can use a lightweight cotton scarf or shawl.  And there will be multiple kinds you can find in the bazaar too.

I have physical limitations.  I’m not sure I can do yoga.

Totally fine! If you wish to participate in the yoga, know that intention is the most important thing. You can even visualize yourself doing the yoga, or just move within your own range. Some people will sit in chairs in the back or off to the side and do what they can. And there is so much to benefit from that is beyond the movement itself. There is a lot of meditation and chanting. Find the perfect class for you!

Or, if you wish to not do much yoga, there is so much to enjoy additionally. From the incredible musicians, who will be playing throughout the event, to workshops ranging from learning to play the gong to making art to communing with all the wonderful individuals, to shopping in the bazaar, there are lots of options!

I’m still concerned about fitting in. I don’t do much yoga, but I would like to try.

Then that is all you need, is this desire. Simply show up, come for as much as you can. The longer you are here, the more the technology will work through you. You will move beyond your fears, beyond your mind. You will confront your inner self. You will see through the classes, through the teaching, through the music, through the community, that we are all one big family. And more than that~ you are more than any one limiting identity, or concept of who you think you are~ you are your infinite spirit! Come to connect with this inner truth, as ignited by the life-changing technology. By connecting with your spirit, you will connect with the truth of all of us. You are welcome to come!
