When Yogi Bhajan first came to the United States in 1969, he brought with him a wealth of information on a wide variety of subjects – Kundalini Yoga and meditation, numerology, relationships, healing, herbalism. He also brought a unique blend of knowledge and experience to the subject of food and health. He often spoke of a combination of three roots, called The Trinity Roots.

Three potent roots, known as the Trinity Roots, are essential for cleansing, sustaining, and producing energy in the body. The beneficial effect of each of them separately is amplified when they are cooked together.
Benefits of Garlic

The original recipe for Trinity Rice can be found in Foods for Health and Healing: Remedies and Recipes by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D. The recipe below has been modified slightly, to incorporate additional spices not listed in the book.
2 tsp. ground cumin
1 tsp. coriander powder
1 tsp. turmeric powder
2 onions, chopped
2 cloves, garlic – peeled and sliced
1 inch ginger root, peeled and grated
1 cup basmati rice
1/2 – 3/4 cup ghee
1 tomato, peeled
4-5 cups assorted chopped vegetables
Rinse basmati rice, thoroughly. Sauté spices in ghee until fragrant. Add onion, garlic and ginger (“trinity roots”) and stir slowly until onions begin become translucent. Then add tomato, assorted vegetables and rice, along with 4 cups of water. Cover and let simmer on a low heat, checking frequently. Add water as necessary. Cook until vegetables are soft and rice is done. Serves 4.
